Open 3 Months, ‘Brigitte’ Seeks Basement Club on Ludlow
Of course this would happen. Open nigh on three months, Canal Street bistro Brigitte is already angling to open a basement club. Naturally.
Ownership this week submitted a dressed-up application to alter its liquor license to include bar and seats in the cellar. Blueprints show communal table seating to accommodate twenty-four additional patrons, plus a previously built bar in the corner of the room. Their pitch also seeks 4am closing all days, which might not go over well with some locals.
The application will be heard on Monday at the Community Board 3 SLA meeting.
Brigitte is the second French restaurant to operate at 37 Canal in recent years. It harkens back to the store’s pedigree as the onetime Les Enfants Terribles. That locals haunt served this area of Chinatown/Lower East Side for a decade before foundering in 2012. Icelandic outpost Skal followed, but couldn’t quite turn it out, and folded in 2015.
