Boss Tweed’s Saloon Won’t be Returning to Essex Street
Today in news that won’t surprise, we can report that Boss Tweed’s Saloon will not be returning to Essex Street. The City Marshals came to the long-shuttered nightclub and seized the space on behalf of the landlord.
Boss Tweed’s barely survived its reboot, having spent five months in the wild before a 20-year-old Jersey girl passed out in the bathroom after a night of drinking (and was locked there until morning) last July. That incident, and the factor of underage drinking, was enough for the authorities to raid the joint in a multiagency sting several days later.
They were hit with some two dozen various violations and never recovered. However, to retain the value of the investment (i.e. a licensed address), the liquor license was reportedly placed in safe keeping last September under the guise of “critical repairs,” according to the State Liquor Authority.
So, it’s only a matter of time before the space becomes another bar…
