14-Story Hotel Development Reactivated at Vacant Eldridge Street Lot

It’s been two years since we learned about the new hotel planned for 79 Eldridge Street, the long-vacant lot situated south of Grand. Despite the submission of building plans to the city back in March 2016, inactivity has been the trend here.

No longer.

As of last week, the green-hued perimeter plywood is now constructed and the backhoe operational. When we stopped by yesterday, a flatbed delivered a mess of pipes.

What rises here now is different from the initial ten-story proposal. The new hotel construction will instead reach a height of fourteen stories, and carry 48 rooms. There is also 1,243 square-feet of floor area reserved for a community facility of some sort.

This is a long time coming for 79 Eldridge Street. The private parking lot was on the open market for three years before the corporate shell “Eldridge Hotel LLC” shelled out $5.3 million for the parcel in 2016.

There was a brief tease of a laundry startup here, but that seemed […]

Amidst SoHo-NoHo Rezoning, Crosby Street Cardboard City Proves Need for City Planning Spotlight

Dueling photographs of a single Crosby Street stoop reveal a tale of two perspectives of life in SoHo.
