Angelo’s of Mulberry Promises to Return ‘Stronger Than Ever’ After Devastating Fire
As Little Italy awoke last Saturday morning, a two-alarm fire erased a century-old restaurant and injured thirteen people.
The blaze started shortly before 8am and quickly engulfed Angelo’s of Mulberry on the ground level and the floors above. It took dozens of firefighters two hours (and a fleet of 25 trucks) before the flames were contained.
According to the New York Times, the Department of Buildings is examining the stability of the structure, and the fire marshal is still looking into the cause of the fire.
Signs in the windows of the restaurant, meanwhile, promise patrons that Angelo’s will soon return “stronger than ever.”
Angelo’s has held down the same 146 Mulberry Street location since its formation in 1902. It’s a Little Italy staple that offers up authentic southern Italian cuisine.
