When Parallel Parking Ends with a Jeep in a Chinatown Restaurant [PHOTOS]
A driver trying to parallel park his Jeep in Chatham Square stepped too hard on the gas pedal and found himself in the restaurant.
Witnesses said the man had been in reverse while parking, and accidentally gunned it. The SUV jumped the curb, knocked down the bus stop sign, and collided with the Hop Shing Restaurant. The cellar doors were also busted.
EMS treated one victim at the scene, who was transported to a New York-Presbyterian hospital with minor injuries.
Inspectors from the Department of Buildings also showed up to assess damage to the building itself at 9 Chatham Square. However, the cracks seen in the exterior are reportedly cosmetic damage only.
The driver remained, but it’s unclear whether he was charged with anything.
