Essex Crossing Breaks Ground at Demolished Market Site for 8-Story Senior Housing
It’s completely gone. Eradicated from Essex Street. Now, only two of the original Essex Market buildings remain.
Demolition of the brick warehouse and the subsequent debris removal at 140 Essex (aka Site 8) officially completed last month. For seven decades, the one-story brick facility stood here. Now it’s just open air and the towering machines waiting to fill it. Pile driver and backhoe just commenced drilling and excavation activities toward the rear of the project site.
As previously reported, Site 8 will give rise to an eight-story (128 feet) development with 92 studio apartments reserved for area seniors only, and are 100% affordable. Residents will have access to a second-floor residential terrace, laundry room, and eighth-floor library. There is also 9,645 square-feet of ground-level retail.
