Good Lucking Nabbing those Limited Edition David Bowie MetroCards
As part of the sprawling David Bowie mini-exhibit inside Broadway-Lafayette subway station, straphangers (and collectors) can now purchase limited edition MetroCards emblazoned with the icon. The new cards apparently run $6.50, as there is a two-ride minimum (includes $1 new card fee), and are available from the dispensers and station agents. While supplies last, of course.
There are five different cards in the collection, each featuring Bowie’s different personas. Here are four of them:
Good luck getting them, though. Long lines plague the booths, and the machines run out of supply real quick. According to published reports, only 250,000 are available.
This Bowie shrine doubles as advertisement for the excellent exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, “David Bowie Is,” which is on display through July 15. The most compelling attraction of the stunt is the artist’s face spread across both sides of the rafters on the mezzanine level.
Rail Control to Major Tom: David Bowie branded MetroCards, created by @Spotify, are now available at the Broadway-Lafayette and Bleecker St stations. We’ve printed 250,000 cards, featuring 5 iconic images from the David Bowie exhibit @BrooklynMuseum. Drop by anytime to get yours.
