The date is finally set.

We’ve known for months that Target’s new small-format store at Essex Crossing would open this summer. Now, it’s official. According to published reports, expect the big-box company to open its doors on August 19. In preparation for the grand opening, Target announced yesterday that there will be hiring events next week with the goal of netting 85 employees.

Also in the works for 400 Grand Street (aka Site 5) is a basement-level Trader Joe’s, likewise with a summertime debut.

The new development at Site 5, dubbed The Rollins, is designed by the firm Beyer Blinder Belle, and boasts 211 rental units (half affordable), a potential school facility, and public park on the Broome Street perimeter. Leasing for the apartments went live back in March and is pretty much unaffordable, despite the net-effective free month of rent – studios start at $2,945 per month; one-bedrooms at $3,855 per month; two-bedrooms at $5,400 per month; and three-bedrooms at $7,295 per month. The affordable stock starts at a bottom-dollar $519 per month.
