Chinatown’s ‘Hop Shing’ Restaurant Returns After 6-Month Hiatus
Hop Shing restaurant in Chatham Square reopened on Monday after an extended five-month hiatus.
You’ll recall that this was the restaurant whose facade was crushed by a Jeep back in February. We learned at the time that the driver was allegedly parallel parking and accidentally gunned the accelerator. Apparently the collision, which injured one, was enough to damage the front-of-house gas pipes. Fire Department inspectors followed and closed the restaurant to the public.
According to Department of Buildings, gas service was shut off as safety precaution. Hop Shing worked over the next five months to overturn, install new plumbing, and reopen.
