‘El Luchador’ on Ludlow Street is Gone After 2 Years

El Luchador on Ludlow Street served its last taco.

The Lower East Side spin-off of the South Street taco trailer called it quits last month. A fading, handwritten sign in the front door of 132 Ludlow announces that the establishment is “closed until further notice.”

When we called up the original location for confirmation, an employee noted that the business split, and that the 132 Ludlow spot was no longer affiliated with the original. The number listed for the Hell Square spot rings forever without pickup.

It’s been a difficult few months for El Luchador, which first opened in Hell Square in May 2016. The Department of Health came a-knockin’ at the beginning of the year, citing the fast food restaurant with 39 violation points for, among other citations, evidence of live mice and roaches in food areas. At the time, ownership blamed the closure on a burst water pipe.
