Stopping Guns with a Mural on Stanton Street
With “Missbehave” out of the picture, gun violence is now topic of conversation on Eldridge Street.
The longstanding mural – painted by Mike Giant for the Missbehave boutique over a decade ago – was deposed last month. Instead, Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra repainted this three-story replacement. And with a message, at that. An anti-gun message.
Kobra’s kaleidescopic “Stop Guns” treatment portrays a student posing for a selfie with phone elevated in one hand and firearm in another. Location is appropriate, too. The parking lot beside Cascades High School.
This colorful neighborhood addition is the second on the Lower East Side for Kobra. He also recently completed a massive Michael Jackson tribute on First Avenue (double-take of young and adult MJ).
