There is now a massive mural illustrating the fallen musicians in the so-called “27 Club.”
Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra spent the better part of the last week painting five detailed faces at the corner of Rivington and Forsyth Streets – Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Amy Winehouse.

These musicians belong to the infamous “27 Club,” a cultural meme highlighting those famous rockstars who died at age 27, most often as a result of drug abuse and suicide.

Kobra has been rather prolific around town the last few months. He’s also behind an anti-gun mural around the corner, as well as a Michael Jackson tribute in the East Village. And he’s concurrently working on an Albert Einstein piece in Chelsea.
