Anti-Amazon Stickers Slapped on Subway Etiquette Signs
Anti-Amazon attitude is at a fever pitch barely a week after the online retail conglomerate announced that half its second headquarters (HQ2) would be situated in Long Island City. Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, and real estate speculators are all equally salivating over the deal, which will see an influx of 25,000 employees and create a cascade of gentrification in the area.
Their arrival is courtesy of some $3 billion in subsidies and tax breaks (and a helipad), essentially equating to corporate welfare.
Much of the sentiment on the street, however, is in opposition to the deal. People aren’t happy about the proposal being rammed through by the governor.
For instance, someone is now hacking the etiquette stickers in subway cars with this rendition which includes the “no Amazon” illustration.
