‘There’ is Here on Orchard Street

With a name that could evoke an Abbott and Costello gag, There is now here on Orchard Street.

There takes the space formerly occupied by Red Compass, and focuses on a menu of “Asian fusion” fare. The establishment, which opened a few weeks ago, occupies both the sub-grade storefront and the questionably legal rear-yard enclosure.

Ricky Dolinsky, former chef de cuisine of long-gone Fatta Cuckoo on Clinton Street (among others), is behind the newcomer.

The space at 154 Orchard Street is itself notorious, thanks to a string of food failures over the last decade. Namely, with chef Danny Bowien and his popular Mission Chinese Food, which lasted here for just a over a year. The back deck, which wasn’t up to code, and the purported pest problem at the time were together cause for closure in late 2013. And for the lawsuit he filed against the landlord nine months later in August 2014.
