‘Karvouna Mezze’ Debuts on the Bowery Today
Word first began circulating one year ago about the Greek restaurant replacing La Gamelle on the Bowery. This week, it’s finally happening.
Karvouna Mezze is set to open at 241 Bowery later today. It’s described as a “large-scale tapas bar and lounge that gives diners the option to mix and match their favorite Greek dishes.”
Menu for Karvouna, Greek for charcoal, features grilled fare aplenty, and is inspired by street foods of the home country.
Partners Dimitris Vlahakis, Wei Chen, and Chef Giuseppe Scalco (Merakia steakhouse) are together behind the effort.
Karvouna is the fourth restaurant to make a go of it at 241 Bowery in the last six years. But this is the first without chef Mathieu Palombino, whose Bowery Diner initially converted the space from restaurant supply shop to eatery in 2012.
