Layaway Larcenist Shoots Taser in Pawn Shop Robbery on Delancey Street
A taser-wielding bandit made off with jewelry from a Lower East Side pawn shop Wednesday, police said.
Shortly after 5:30pm Wednesday evening, three twenty-something women entered Robin Solid Gold at 132 Delancey Street. One reportedly began arguing with Robin about her jewelry on layaway, when she snatched it from his hands and bolted; her two friends on lookout held the door open.
When the proprietor gave chase, the ringleader attempted to disable him by firing a taser gun, but missed. They then fled into the Essex Street subway station right out front.
Solid Gold is a local mainstay with somewhat of a celebrity following. Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus have been known to frequent the pawnbroker.
