Six-Story Development Planned for Rutgers Street Laundromat Building
It’s laundry day.
The one-story laundromat building at 32 Rutgers Street is on the verge of redevelopment. Plans were filed last week for the construction of a sixty-foot mixed-use property.
Qiliang Chen of Soho Property LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed six-story development has total floor area of 10,047 square-feet, with 7,272 square-feet earmarked as residential space. It will have ten apartments, each measuring roughly 727 square-feet.
As of yesterday, though, the city is not yet on board. Department of Buildings disapproved of the proposal. For now.
Former tenant Emily’s Laundromat fell victim to a fire three years ago, and it wasn’t quite the same since. The business seemingly rebounded but only for a short time.
