Report: Teen Boosts Taxi from LES and Attempts Drive to Six Flags
If you’re gonna steal the car, don’t pull over for R-and-R.
Police say that 19-year-old Jonathan Gualpa boosted a taxicab parked on the Lower East Side early Tuesday morning and attempted to drive it down to Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. The vehicle was reportedly still running at 5:45am when the teen hijacker drove off. (Exact location of the heist is unknown at the moment, but the report notes Lower East Side.)
Authorities in Rochelle Park (Bergen County) arrested Gualpa after using GPS to track his coordinates. The teen had apparently pulled over to take a nap in the back seat, and was found sleeping when cops came a-knockin.
Gualpa was reportedly charged with receiving stolen property, but later released pending a court hearing.
Even if the guy had reached Six Flags, he would’ve experienced firsthand, much like Clark Griswold, his own pseudo Walley World moment. That the amusement park doesn’t actually open until April 6…
