‘Last Light’ Enters Cashless Controversy with Bowery Rooftop Bar

The Bowery now has its newest rooftop bar, courtesy of Sister City.

Last Light debuted last night on the eleventh floor of the new Ace-related hotel at 225 Bowery. Its mantra seems to be “sky and spirits,” serving cocktails, organic wines, local craft beer, and food from ground-level restaurant, Floret.

The newcomer accommodates 200 bar-goers at any given time. Occupancy limits are 100 for the Main Room, 40 for the East Deck, and 60 on the West Deck.

However, Last Light strikes a chord of controversy by following a growing trend of establishments that don’t accept cash. Arguments abound how this practice is classist and discriminatory, and penalizes the poor (i.e. those who are unbanked). So much so that City Council is mulling a bill that would make it illegal for businesses to refuse cash payment.

But it gives you an idea of who hangs out here…

Last Light is open from 3:00pm to 2:00am daily.
