‘Sunshine Cinema’ Gets its Demolition Death Shroud

Hope you got your final photos for posterity, as the facade of the Sunshine Cinema is forever lost. Demolition death shroud – consisting of scaffolding and netting – is now firmly in place, effectively obstructing progress of the takedown within.

Owner-developers East End Capital and K Property Group, who together purchased the Lower East Side theater two years ago for $31.5 million, are behind the bland redevelopment. A nine-story, $90 million building that will boast eight full-floor commercial units ranging in size from 5,000 to 6,800 square-feet. Each column-free office will have 12-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, concierge services, and private terraces. Other shared amenities include an executive conference room and roof deck. There is also one multi-level retail space with 60 feet of frontage.

As for the Sunshine Cinema neons, a spokesperson from East End previously confirmed that it’s in their possession. Likely to be hoisted as some sort of trophy in the new development.

And a look at the future of the site. One word – sterile.
