Local 138 Reopens on Friday with New Orchard Street Bar
It took four months, but the reboot of Local 138 is days from opening at its new Orchard Street home.
Local 138, which had occupied its namesake Ludlow address since 1996, announced the closure and move and impending move to 181 Orchard back in January. Work has been underway since. A downsizing not entirely its own choice, either.
As reported, controversial landlord Michael Shah purchased the pre-war tenement in January 2018 for $19 million, and gave the bar its marching orders. The initial plan was to relocate the operation to the north store of 138 Ludlow, but to surrender the liquor license and apply for a new one.
When that fell through, Local 138 decided to throw the dice on the former Quinn boutique a block away at 181 Orchard.
We’re told the official launch date is this Friday (July 26).
Local 138 is the second longtime Ludlow Street bar to find refuge in a second act on Orchard. Max Fish did the same five years ago.
