Parks Converts ‘The Pit’ to Soccer Field with New Sports Coating
The bike polo contingent can now play in style.
Indeed, the favored Lower East Side sunken court, dubbed “The Pit,” last month received a fresh coat of paint courtesy of the Parks Department. The unique concrete pitch boasts soccer markings in the familiar green hue, sprucing up one of the more drab areas of Sara D. Roosevelt Park.
The paint job – officially referred to as “sports coating” – is part of the city’s overarching attempt to redirect park space while the East River Park is bulldozed in the name of coastal resiliency.
