Trashed Pizza Plates Repurposed for Supersize Scrabble Game on Orchard Street

From hardscrabble to scrabble, Orchard Street has now seen it all.

Beginning tomorrow morning – when traffic is blocked for the pedestrian mall – Artist Adrian Wilson will chalk an enormous scrabble board on the asphalt between Pizza Beach and Hair of the Dog. The supersize replica is accurate down to the last Triple Word Score.

White paper plates will serve as the letter tiles to play the game.

The drive to create possibly the world’s biggest Scrabble board is apparently rooted in recycling. Wilson tells us that the discarded trash gave him the idea for the Sunday stunt.

“After seeing all the discarded pizza plates, I came up with a creative use for them – pizza slice Scrabble seemed a fun community way to recycle them,” Wilson says “All are welcome to join in from 11am on Sunday.”
