5-Story Bugs Bunny Mural on Ludlow Street
Here’s what’s up, doc. A new Bugs Bunny mural underway on the facade of 161 Ludlow Street, overlooking the vacant lot next door,
The artist – the city’s own, Jerkface (aka Incarcerated Jerkfaces) – began work on the portrait yesterday afternoon. He is apparently aiming for Friday completion.
Jerkface is known for reinterpreting classic characters in the cartoon canon. Some of his pieces remain in play around the Lower East Side, too. Such as the Homer Simpson-Spongebob mashup on Stanton Street and Mickey Mouse on Mulberry Street.
This isn’t the first time Bugs Bunny appeared on the Lower East Side. The Looney Toon starred in “Bowery Bugs” (1949), which retold the tall tale of Brooklyn bookie Steve Brodie, who allegedly survived a jump from the Brooklyn Bridge in 1886. (Historians believe the story a hoax and that a dummy made the plunge,)
