Seven months after the city announcement, there is a new mini soccer pitch on the Lower East Side.

Last week, PS 142 on Attorney Street cut the ribbon on the new play space. Essentially, blacktop painted with the lines of a soccer field. The play-yard addition is sponsored by the nascent NYC Soccer Initiative, a public-private program between the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, New York City Football Club (NYCFC), U.S. Soccer Foundation (U.S. Soccer), and Adidas Inc. It’s one of fifty mini-soccer pitches the conglomerate will construct and maintain across the city over the course of five years.

Like other NYSCI sites, PS 142 (aka Amalia Castro School & Manhattan Charter School) will offer after-school programming for students. The small field will also be available for use by the public, outside of school hours.
