‘27 Club’ Mural on Rivington Street is Defaced Again
For the second time in the last six months, the popular “27 club” mural at Rivington and Forsyth Streets was vandalized. This time, the desecration is way worse.
A string of Batman-inspired tags lines the base of the two-story brick building.
The last incident – back in July – sparked a response from neighbors who love the art. They accused the vandals of showing “immaturity, disrespect, and ignorance to the public art of NYC.”
Painted by Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra one year ago, the mural portrays prominent members of the “27 Club” – Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Amy Winehouse who all died at age 27.
