Famous Hakki Opens ‘Cluck’s’ Fried Chicken Spot on Essex Street

Famous pizza maker Hakki Akdeniz just unveiled his latest fast food concept. It’s chicken-focused fast food and seems poised to collect plenty of cash from weekend revelers in Hell Square.

Cluck’s debuted last week at 115 Essex Street, mere steps from Hakki’s Champion Pizza.

The signature menu offering here is the “chicken cone,” which is exactly what it sounds like. A vanilla or chocolate cone stuffed with fried chicken and condiments. There are also wings and sandwiches for sale. And almost everything is priced under $10.

Cluck’s doesn’t seem hungry for the lunch fare, though. It was virtually empty when we stopped by. But that will probably change during the weekend onslaught.

The fast food restaurant takes the torch from the short-lived, and decidedly healthier, Greens and Grains which shuttered earlier this year.
