GrandLo Cafe Receives $50K Grant from the Keith Haring Foundation
GrandLo Cafe landed a substantial grant from the Keith Haring Foundation.
Awarded to the Grand Street Settlement’s social enterprise job training program back in December, the $50,000 funding will be split over a two year span. It will allow the cafe, which debuted at Essex Crossing two years ago, to establish a mentoring program connecting youth with professional mentors.
“This generous funding from The Keith Haring Foundation will transform the lives of our job trainees,” said Robert Cordero, Executive Director of Grand Street Settlement. “These community mentors will help our young people create deep professional relationships and advance in their endeavors, whether that is getting back into school, getting their GED, or starting a new career. Keith Haring often worked with young people on his public art, much of which was on the Lower East Side [and] we look forward to honoring Keith Haring’s legacy.”
