Sinkhole Swallows SUV on East 2nd Street
Early Sunday morning, the street opened up and swallowed an SUV on the Lower East Side.
The roadbed on East Second Street – just west of Avenue A – sunk into oblivion shortly after midnight. Taking away a parking space and its vehicle.
Firefighters and cops responded, and the truck was eventually excised from the hole. The tipster who sent this photo commented how precise the fall was that it seemed like a “Banksy piece.”
This area isn’t a stranger to sinkholes. You’ll recall the enormous pit that opened outside Katz’s Deli six years ago.
