There is a Rooftop Soccer Field on this Madison Street Building
The Ground is where soccer meets tar beach.
Down in Chinatown, where Madison Street meets the de-mapped Mechanics Alley, beside the Manhattan Bridge, is a one-story warehouse dedicated to soccer. The Ground, which recently relocated from Monroe Street, opens later this week at 130 Madison.
And with it, an indoor soccer field and rooftop pitch.
(The whole setup harkens to the hockey scene in Clerks, except with a fence.)
As previously reported, the business purchased 130 Madison Street last December. The larger field allows for more programs and clinics for kids (the state allowed reopening of day care), plus a small bar room for spectators.
The Ground also contributed some artistic flavor to the walls of adjacent Mechanics Alley. Street artist BXFOXX painted a series of tribute murals to some of the sport’s greatest.
