Swapping those Disgusting Subway Tiles at East Broadway Station

The oft-neglected East Broadway subway station is getting something of a facelift. No more wall-sucking sludge monsters.

Indeed, for years these shit-brown deposits subsisted on the subway wall tiles. Growing bigger with each passing year. But now, some much-needed attention.

As part of the renovation plan of the Hurricane Sandy-damaged Rutgers Tube – which connects this always dangerous station (last on the southbound F line) to York Street in Brooklyn – the city is repairing this subway station. It remains to be seen whether this will have any effect on overall crime here.

Which certainly begs the question – if this slate of improvements is part of overall tunnel work, then why also included as concession enhancements from the proposed waterfront towers in their pitch to the community?
