Orchard Street Boutique Throws Impromptu Holiday Market on Saturday
In an attempt to ail struggling local retail, a Lower East Side boutique is hosting an impromptu holiday market on its doorstep this Saturday.
The Kallmeyer boutique earlier this week threw together “Kallmeyer and Friends,” a one-day market featuring an eclectic gaggle of small vendors. Participants include L’enchenteur (Brooklyn-based jewelers), Homemade by Aja (candles and herbs), Lily Saporta Taiguiri, TONNDO, Aviva Rowley ceramics, as well as other baked goods, wood crafts, glassware etc.
The inspiration was to give a seasonal jolt to independent retailers doing battle against coronavirus.
“It was the community spirit that had me asking what I could do to support entrepreneurs who are giving this year/season their best shot,” eponymous owner Daniella Kallmeyer tells us. “For all the bad this year has brought I’ve seen a surge in support for small businesses and friends sharing their unofficial [#shopsmall] gift guides, I saw some things that really moved me and I reached out.”
