New Wine Bar Eyes Former Pala Pizza on Allen Street

The former home of a beloved pizza place on Allen Street may soon birth a new nightspot.

Bereft of a permanent occupant since Pala Pizza shuttered in 2017, principals Allen Chan and Djamel Omari hope to impart an Italian wine bar and restaurant at 198 Allen Street. Menu includes share and family style dishes – pastas, soups, cured meats – paired with a wine and cocktails menu.

The applicant appeared on the Community Board 3 agenda this month to argue for full liquor license, but withdrew.

The Pala pizzeria opened on this upper stretch of Allen Street back in 2006, two full years before the Thompson LES hotel (now known as Sixty LES) even opened. The establishment, which offered a variety of vegan and gluten-free options, weathered the storm for more than a decade.
