NYPD Investigating Allen Street Assault on 66-Year-Old Asian Man as Hate Crime
Police are investigating the unprovoked attack of a 66-year-old Asian man on the Lower East Side as a hate crime, authorities said.
Cops said the victim was attacked Saturday morning by a homeless man in front Rockwood Music Hall at about 8:55am. The suspect reportedly approached the victim and yelled the word “Chinese” before punching the man multiple times in the face. The victim reportedly did not know his attacker.
The bigot fled southbound, and turned onto Stanton Street eastbound.
Police from the 7th Precinct and EMS responded to the scene. The victim sustained swelling and bruising to the left side of his face, Ute apparently refused medical attention on-site.
By Saturday afternoon, the NYPD assigned the case to its Hate Crimes Task Force.
