Hester Street Fair Revived, Trades LES for Pier 17
The Hester Street Fair is once again, alive and well, albeit in new digs. This Labor Day weekend marks the reopening of the fair; no longer on its namesake Lower East Side street, but instead holding court at the Seaport’s Pier 17.
Earlier this year, the Seward Park Co-op board announced it was replacing the Hester Street Fair with Flea Industries’ Smorgasboard. Advocates of the decade-running flea scrambled to assemble support to stay alive, and claimed that the board had booted them by surprise. The agreement on the space expired last year, but an amendment was apparently signed in July 2020. Organizers allege that the two sides were hammering out a proposal in February that was well received.
The newly relocated Hester Street Fair resumes tomorrow and Sunday, 11am to 6pm.
