3 Sheets Saloon to Replace Town Tavern

Last modified November 1, 2010 at 12:14 am

Last month, the Town Tavern at 134 West Third Street closed for renovations.  At the time, flyers in its windows indicated that the frat-hole would soon re-open under new management. The behemoth McDonald’s outpost at the corner of West Third Street and Sixth Avenue is undergoing a playground change. A McChange, as it were.  Yesterday afternoon, a pair of handymen dismantled the entire fenced-in playground with saws and other assorted machinery.

West 4th Newsstand Revived

Posted June 11, 2010 at 6:18 am

Defying the odds, the unique corner newsstand at the junction of West Third and Sixth Avenue was revived earlier this week.  For a little over a year, the green box had fallen into disrepair, papered with stickers, flyers, and the like.  But now it’s back, having dodged the Cemusa glass bullet.

Joe Jr.’s Lives

Posted April 28, 2010 at 6:19 am

Nigh on a year since closing its doors forever, city folk are still mourning the loss of Joe Jr.’s at 482 Sixth Avenue.  All the last-ditch efforts to save the greasy spoon – Facebook pages and fan sites – ultimately proved ineffective.  And we are still left with a decrepit eyesore of what once was; no […]

Soup Man Operating Out of Tasti D-Lite

Posted February 8, 2010 at 6:17 am

Soup and ice cream is an odd marriage of foods, but that’s not stopping Tasti D-Lite from diversifying its offerings.  For the last couple months, the Soup Man (nay Nazi) franchise popularized by Seinfeld has been operating out of the 190 Bleecker Street outpost.

Steven van Zandt on Fourth Street

Posted September 9, 2009 at 6:28 am

We were walking along West Fourth Street yesterday when a stout, bandanna-wearing man passed us on the right.  He was in quite a rush, holding a leather jacket in one hand and a cell phone in the other.  After a double-take, we realized he was none other than Steven van Zandt.  Little Steven. Miami Steve.  […]

Blake Griffin at The Cage

Last modified June 27, 2012 at 1:38 am

Early yesterday afternoon, Sooner superstar Blake Griffin was spotted at the Cage near West Fourth Street. Dressed in a Subway jersey and towering above all other players on the court, his presence appeared to be little more than a public relations stunt to announce this most recent endorsement. Indeed, in his own words: Glad to […]
