It appears the student residents of the Ludlow Residence have taken a stand against neighborhood litterbugs. Two saplings outside the gargantuan structure are adorned with urban etiquette signage, written in the point of view of the flora.

This is not the first time (and won’t be the last) that we’ve encountered children on leashes around the neighborhood. Something just doesn’t compute here. Seriously, what kind of childhood behavior could warrant such cruel punishment?

According to The Ticker, the Baruch College newspaper, the CUNY school will share the Ludlow Residence with the School of Visual Arts. Students will reportedly have the opportunity to live at 101 Ludlow starting fall semester 2010, which “provides the opportunity to partake in the traditional college experience.”

In recent days, the Ludlow Residence penitentiary was officially initiated into the Lower East Side. Five floors up, the building finally has its first visible graffito. It only took about a year. Scrubbing that off the facade will be quite the task.
