Siempre Verde Garden – “the youngest garden on the LES” – just attained its GreenThumb status from the city over a year ago. Volunteers hoped through consistent and positive use, it would become a permanent neighborhood addition. Neighbors of the long-vacant city-owned lots at 137 Attorney and 181 Stanton Street scored a victory last night in their quest to legitimize gardening efforts in the three-lot parcel.

Despite proposals to the contrary, there is a grassroots movement afoot to instead convert the overgrown lot at 181 Stanton Street into public park space.
