And now for another demolition update over at 185-191 Bowery. The dust is kicked up on the regular down at the southeast corner of Delancey Street, where the wrecking ball is presently making quick work of the four-parcel swath.

Last week, Lower East Siders reveled in the news that two historic Bowery structures received protective landmark designation from the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Despite the glad tidings, the influential thoroughfare is still losing its character.

The Last Gasp of 185 Bowery

In the short week since the netting went up, the century-old 185 Bowery has virtually disappeared from the block.  This is its last gasp before finally succumbing to the inevitable. Another hotel.  While walking past the once-proud townhouse yesterday afternoon, we caught a glimpse of the ground floor interior.  Or what remains of it.

Hold onto your hats, folks, because the wrecking ball is coming to the corner of Bowery and Delancey very, very soon.  Over a month after new scaffolding was erected at 185 Bowery, it appears that this century-old townhouse will be the first of the four structures to fall.
