The Clerkenwell conversion at 49 Clinton Street to Kupersmith back in 2011 didn’t quite take. The restaurant struggled to find a footing in the local restaurant row, and subsequently folded after a year and a half in business. Rivington Street newcomer Yopparai is looking to expand its holdings by adding another Japanese restaurant. And nearby, too. Kupersmith kicked the bucket a few months ago, while a replacement waited in the wings. Or so we thought. Over at 49 Clinton Street, the lights are out, gates drawn, and phone lines dead. Kupersmith is kaput, it seems, having lasted barely two years after switching identities.

As of Friday, the Clerkenwell concept as we know it will cease to exist, and Kupersmith born as replacement. Details after the jump!
