As expected, those bright red neons from the Famous Oyster Bar are now a Lower East Side fixture. The illuminated signage was installed on the corner marquee of Grey Lady yesterday afternoon. Fifty-five years of serving seafood to midtowners concluded at the end of January when Famous Oyster Bar shuttered. Zulu’s, that coffee shop sidecar to Grey Lady, has served its last cup-a-joe at 77 Delancey Street. Ownership signed a three-month lease at the beginning of October and reportedly decided against the option to renew. Grey Lady recently closed up its seasonal sidecar clam shack at 77 Delancey Street. Summer fun in the sun is done, after all. The adjoining space of rotating tenants is instead hosting a confectionary joint called Zulu’s. As of this week, Grey Lady’s four-month-old Nor’East Clam Shack at 77 Delancey is temporarily shutting down for the winter months.

Down East is down the drain, so to speak. The week-old cubbyhole clam shack adjacent to Grey Lady at 77 Delancey Street is now operating under a new moniker.
