It’s 10:30 pm on recent a Monday night, and Hester Street is a brisk ghost town. A few can collectors tear open trash bags at curbside, scrounging for a day’s pay; another dude is poking through the contents of his trunk.

You’ve no doubt seen it already – the cryptic message on the fence of 89-93 Rivington using various elements of discarded food packaging.

For just a few short hours yesterday morning, an impressive assembly of street art was displayed on Rivington between Orchard and Ludlow. Six different hand-crafted shrines were hooked onto the perimeter fence of the overgrown lot where the old First Roumanian-American Congregation Synagogue once stood [RIP 2006].
