With months of preparations already under its belt, Kung Fu Bing officially planted its flag at 189 East Houston. So to speak. There are now, not one, not two, but three illuminated signs bolted into the facade.

Hold the phone! Kung Fu Bing has not given up on the Lower East Side just yet. Merely a couple months after shuttering its eight-month-old location at 79 Division Street, the hokie eatery is poised to reopen at 189 East Houston, former home of Ashkara.

There is activity anew at 189 East Houston! Since Ashkara vacated the premises over three months ago, the interior remained much as they had left it. Random wall hangings, identifying signage on the glass food cases, and cooking equipment was all untouched. The windows eventually devolved into a dusty dirty disaster.

There are more rogue street signs to report. Our latest discoveries are actually around the corner from the “broke is the new black” on Orchard Street. Located just outside the recently-shuttered Ashkara is this trifecta of greatness.

Another closure to report. After little more than three years serving Middle Eastern fare, Ashkara, the kosher pita joint at 189 East Houston, is now out of business.
