Those few years of letting my derriere rest upon them between tours, squishing up against visitors vying for space on their smooth metal laps; the benches were big and bright and from across Delancey, a beacon to the lost looking for the visitor’s center.

Whatever remains of the once-heralded bench scene outside the American Apparel at 183 East Houston has taken a hit. Five of the nine benches on the Orchard Street front were recently pried from the concrete. We stopped into the store yesterday evening to find out more details.

Under renovation since last June, the Hester Street Playground in the southern section of Sara D. Roosevelt Park is finally nearing the finish line. Judging by the state-of-the-art jungle gym set and stacks of new benches awaiting installation, the park appears to be on schedule for its ambiguous summer 2010 completion date. Recess is nigh. […]

Just the other day, this mustachioed man gracefully sat in the western quadrant of Washington Square Park, a flock of pigeons perched about his body. The image was definitely akin to the crazy old pigeon lady in Home Alone 2.
