The sad skeleton of the former Billy’s Antiques (sigh) is now completely slathered in blood-red paint, effectively setting the stage for the current neighborhood display.

At the end of Billy’s elaborate funeral on the Bowery Saturday afternoon, the beloved proprietor mentioned that the skeletal remains of his eponymous antique shop would be painted red.

Saturday afternoon was the official sendoff for Billy’s Antiques after more than two decades at 76 East Houston. Real or symbolic, it was no doubt a funeral for the Bowery in every sense of the word.
