Yesterday morning at around 9:05 am, an eighteen-wheeler struck a cyclist in the intersection of Bowery and Delancey. One Boogie reader (and good Samaritan!) was on scene and emailed us a detailed report of what transpired. As the tipster aptly notes, the intersection is a “fucking deathtrap.”

The intersection of East Houston and Lafayette is dangerous enough, even without the subway superstation mess that has appropriated the area. It’s a high traffic zone full of commuters on foot, bicycle, or in cars. During the morning rush yesterday, a livery driver collided with a cyclist.

In a gridiron street system such as Manhattan, it’s quite hard to imagine a cabbie needing a GPS system. In fact, it doesn’t instill much faith in the driver’s navigational abilities.
