Because branding products with the Bowery namesake is considered chic these days. Yessir, everything from boots and pants, to jackets and shirts. All the cool kids are apparently doing it. Now the five-year-old Velvet Cigar Lounge at 80 East Seventh Street has a new line of cigars named for our beloved thoroughfare.

Last week, Joy Florentz of the forthcoming Maraya Cigar shop offered up some juicy news. Or should we say pickled? In any event, to help fund her independent venture at 87 Orchard Street, Ms. Florentz is looking to sell the trademark Guss’ Pickles signage.

Those rumors about Mother-in-Law’s Kimchi assuming control of the old Guss’ Pickles HQ can now be put to sleep for the duration. Six months after the pickle stand decamped for Borough Park as Ess-a-Pickle, a completely different type of business is moving into the small storefront. A specialty cigar shop called Maraya.
