Roman’s Italian Delicatessen Arrives on Allen Street

Posted July 17, 2014 at 6:00 am

Here’s a newcomer we didn’t quite expect on Allen Street. An honest-to-god Italian Delicatessen called “Roman’s.” With little square-footage to its name, the store is pretty self-explanatory. You go in for a sandwich. Meats are housed in a glass case by the counter, baked bread sits in the window (with Colosseum emblazoned); shelves are stocked […]

From Lucky Stop Deli to Allen Street Deli

So that new “American Deli” we spoke of last week now has an official name.  Allen Street Deli is the new tenant at 203 Allen.  Signage was hoisted yesterday.

Coming Soon: An “American Deli” at 203 Allen

Posted August 9, 2010 at 6:28 am

It seems one bodega begets another at 203 Allen Street, where, until last November, Lucky Stop Deli was tenant. The onetime 24-hour convenience store languished on the open market for many moons, while the navy blue awning gradually fell to pieces in the elements. But there is movement anew!

It’s Katz’s Vs Second Avenue Deli on Food Wars

Last modified June 27, 2012 at 1:38 am

Earlier this week, we reported that the Travel Channel will be filming inside Katz’s Deli this weekend.  The casting call which hangs in their window seeks “superfans” who can be “on camera loud and proud to tell viewers everywhere why Katz’s Deli is the best.”  It’s for an upcoming episode of Food Wars, and we’ve […]

Delancey Store Signage Upgrades

Posted December 7, 2009 at 6:19 am

There are two store signage upgrades on Delancey to report this fine Monday morning.  First is Happiness Deli at 101 Delancey.  While its tired old beige-and-blue awning was a wee bit more subtle, the boxy replacement is simply hard to miss.  Indeed, it’s bright red with the word DELI printed in gigantic white lettering.

The Slow Death of the New York Deli

Last modified December 3, 2009 at 5:58 pm

Today, The Independent (UK) takes a look at the slow death of the New York deli.  While Katz’s holds on by a thread in its threatened Ludlow Street location, others weren’t so lucky.  The article explores how such an icon of Jewish, and city life in general, remains under fire by skyrocketing rents and community […]

Lucky Stop Not So Lucky

Posted November 13, 2009 at 6:19 am

Lucky Stop Deli is not so lucky after all.  The 24-hour bodega which once occupied the tiny real estate of 203 Allen Street is no more.  Just an orange for-rent sign behind shuttered security gates.  The search is now on for the future neighbor of Domino’s Pizza.

Now Open: Sahiwal Deli & Grocery

Last modified November 30, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Sahiwal Deli & Grocery at 50 Delancey is now open, with requisite “grand opening” flags and such hanging from its entrance. The new 24-hour bodega is what you would expect, but also serves Halal foods.

New Bodega at 50 Delancey

Last modified November 30, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Since exposing its service industry past as Allied Aluminum last month, 50 Delancey is ready for a big reveal.  In the last couple of days, a fresh awning was installed, advertising a new 24-hour joint called Sahiwal Deli & Grocery.  Honestly, of all the eligible businesses that could possibly occupy this precious real estate, we’re […]
