Inaugurating their new space on Wednesday evening, the Tenement Museum Visitor’s Center hosted the grand opening of “Out Harvey Wang’s Window: Photos of the Lower East Side.”

Could there be a more appropriate opening exhibit for the recently-opened Tenement Museum Visitors Center than “Out Harvey Wang’s Window,” a series of photographs documenting the Lower East Side and Chinatown, from the late 70’s to the mid 90’s?

On January 8, 1986, the massive Garden of Eden “earthwork” was bulldozed by the city to make way for federally funded housing.
