Shortly before noon today, a major water main break beneath East Houston caused a major collapse between Ludlow and Essex. Water had initially flooded the roadway and even some of the business on the block (i.e. Katz’s Deli). Now we’re left with a sinkhole of epic proportions. Hell Holes Wreaking Havoc Yet Again

Posted September 16, 2009 at 6:29 am

For much of August, the mother of all hell holes opened up at the corner of Stanton and Forsyth Streets.  It remained untended until early September, at which point the NYC Department of Environmental protection was summoned to “fix” the situation.  Now the rushed patchwork is coming apart, with the layers of asphalt receding deeper […]

East Houston Lamborghini

Late Friday afternoon, a dark red Lamborghini with bridge-and-tunnel plates (Jersey) was parked just outside American Aparrel on East Houston. At the moment, a lone cone marks the spot; but we all know that it’s only a matter […]

Houston Hell Hole Plugged

Posted June 24, 2009 at 8:13 am

It took the city about a week to finally plug the Houston Hell Hole with asphalt. And poorly at that. Just take a look at this jury-rig job. An entire section of the ditch was neglected, so expect more trouble in the near future. Especially with the risk of rain in the coming days. Related […]

The Houston Hell Hole

Posted June 15, 2009 at 8:11 am

With long stretches of inclement weather like last week, sinkholes in the city streets are inevitable. The Orchard Street hell hole terrorized northbound motorists for a month. Over time, it essentially became a depository for neighborhood trash. Well, now just a few blocks north on East Houston, another deep hole recently opened. And, as you […]
